Roomba 800/900: should you clean or replace the parts?

Before buying a replenishment kit, identify the component that needs attention. A dirty filter, tangled extractor and full-bin indication call for different checks.

The 4640236 kit is a collection of replacement parts, not a diagnosis of your robot.

Three checks before you buy

  1. Filter debris

    Tap debris into a trash container.
    Do not wash the filter.

  2. Extractor obstructions

    Check the ends, caps and vacuum path using iRobot's instructions.

  3. Full-bin indication

    Empty the bin; wipe sensor ports with a clean, dry microfiber or soft cotton cloth.

Replacement still needed?

Confirm the exact model and approved OEM part. Compare the needed component with the kit contents.

01 / Filter

Check the filter before ordering replacements

iRobot's instructions say to remove the bin, open the filter door and lift the filter using its yellow tab. Tap collected debris into a trash container, then put the filter back. These filters are not designed to be washed. Follow the official illustrated procedure for access and refitting.

Cleaning an existing filter and buying a replacement are separate decisions. Do not treat a photograph of a dusty filter as proof that you need an entire kit. If you need a replacement, confirm the appropriate part for your robot rather than selecting a similar-looking filter.

02 / Extractors

Inspect extractor ends and caps

Debris can collect around the extractor pegs, beneath the caps and around the metal axles. iRobot also directs owners to check that the vacuum path is clear. When refitting extractors, match the peg colors and shapes to the icons on the cleaning head and check the frame alignment.

The official procedure includes checking that the extractors rotate freely; if they do not, replacement may be needed. Use its diagrams for the exact handling steps rather than forcing a part into place. This is a maintenance check, not proof that every pickup problem is caused by worn rollers.

03 / Bin sensors

A full-bin indication is not an automatic kit purchase

iRobot's bin-care instructions include emptying the bin and cleaning the robot's sensors plus the inner and outer sensor ports on the bin. Use a clean, dry microfiber or soft cotton cloth as directed. A filter change does not replace these sensor-cleaning steps.

Compare that list with the component you actually need; the bundle is not automatically the right purchase for a single maintenance task. If you need one component, check the exact compatible individual part and current options with iRobot or your chosen retailer. Confirm fit for your exact model

Have the full US model code R980020? Open its existing compatibility result and check the current recommendation before proceeding. This is a specific existing example, not a new approval for every similarly named robot.

For a different full code, use the model checker. If you only have a series name or serial number, find the correct identifier first. An unconfirmed result is a reason to ask support, not to guess.
