Robot mop leaving streaks?
Clean, adjust or replace—with a way to check the result.
Marks after mopping, a station that smells or another roller-tangle alert: find where the problem starts, then choose the next action.
Find your symptomFor robots with mopping capability and hard floors whose manufacturer permits wet mopping. The checking order works for flat pads, spinning pads and roller mops; use your model’s instructions for removal, washing and refitting.

01 / Start with the symptom
What are you seeing?
Choose the closest row, complete the first action, then recheck. This household checklist brings together the manufacturer troubleshooting examples linked below.
| What you see | First action | How to recheck | Next decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thin wet marks disappear as the floor dries; no puddles or alerts | Check that the mop is evenly wet. If water delivery is clearly excessive, reduce it one step within your model’s and floor’s permitted settings. | Compare the wet marks and dried result on the same small area. | If the adjustment gives a satisfactory result, keep using the existing mop. |
| Gray or oily marks remain after drying, or dirt spreads as it mops | Remove loose dry debris. Clean the mop or roller and wash tray, then check the cleaning-solution dose. | Check whether the next run still transfers marks to clean areas. | Keep the cleaning routine if marks improve. If residue persists, check floor-care requirements and water supply and drainage. |
| It starts well, then the mop dries out or leaves stripes | Check clean water, mop wetting and rewash settings. Shorten the interval if your model supports automatic rewashing. | Check whether wetting stays even later in the run. | Keep the settings if it improves. Follow the model’s water-supply troubleshooting if the mop stays dry. |
| The mop or station smells | Empty and clean the dirty-water tank, wash tray and mop. Complete the model’s drying process. | Check the clean tank, tray and dried mop separately to locate the remaining odor. | Treat the component where the smell remains; ask support to assess persistent odor. |
| A roller-tangle alert appears, or the roller moves poorly | Stop the task. Follow your manual to clean the roller, end cap and accessible cavity, then refit them. | Check whether the alert clears and movement returns to normal. | Continue using it if restored. Contact support if the alert remains after cleaning and refitting. |
| Dirty water pools in the wash tray, or water leaks onto the floor | Pause mopping and address the pooled water. Check tank capacity, lid closure, seating and filter holes you are allowed to clean. | Follow the model’s official drainage or leak procedure. | If pooling or leaking continues, contact support before shopping for a mop. |
| The mop is torn, visibly thin or still misshapen after cleaning | Locate the damage: fabric, roller consumable or mounting hardware. | Check both the fabric and its attachment points. | Replace the damaged consumable; check repair options for a damaged holder or drive component. |
02 / Follow the dirt
Connect the three cleaning areas
Follow the route from the mop touching the floor, through washing at the station, to dirty-water collection. This helps you find dirt left in the tray or tank after the mop itself has been washed.
Before starting: pause the task and follow the model’s maintenance instructions. If the roller must be extended while powered, complete that preparation first. Follow the manual’s shutdown and station-disconnection steps before cleaning.
| Location | What to do | Finish by checking |
|---|---|---|
| Mop pad or roller | Remove the consumable as permitted by the manufacturer. Clear hair, grit and attached dirt, then wash as instructed. | Check for clumps of dirt, tears and distortion. Refit it flat and secure. |
| Wash tray and removable filters | Clear sludge, hair and visible blockages. Wash the removable parts as instructed and put them back. | Check that filter holes and drainage areas are clear and the tray is seated correctly. |
| Dirty-water tank, plus an onboard dirty-water box where fitted | Empty dirty water. Clean the tank and washable filter parts, then refit the lid and components. | Check that the tank is not full, the lid is closed and the tank is seated. Look for trapped dirt or damage at sealing points. |
The X10 Pro Omni manual has separate steps for the dirty-water tank and wash tray, and recommends cleaning the tank after cleaning tasks to reduce odor. Its drainage troubleshooting also checks the tank lid, capacity and tray filter holes.
Use a cleaning solution, dose and filling location permitted by both the equipment and floor instructions. If foam or residue appears, review what you added and how much. Check the equipment instructions before using dish soap, vinegar or disinfectant. eufy’s X10 water-error guidance specifically addresses foaming and corrosive additives.

Pads and rollers need their own steps
Removable pads: wash the fabric and check the holder
For flat or spinning pads, identify which parts detach separately. After washing the removable fabric, check that the fixing surface is secure and the edges sit flat, then refit as instructed.
For example, section D7 of the Roborock Q Revo manual says to remove, wash and air-dry the mop cloth before fixing it to the mount. Use that procedure for Q Revo and your own manual for other designs.
Q Revo manual, section D7Roller mops: check the ends and onboard dirty-water box
Along with the roller surface, inspect removable end caps and accessible cavities as directed. Include the onboard dirty-water box if your robot has one.
The ECOVACS T80 OMNI uses an integrated mop-and-roller consumable. Its removal procedure uses the specified extension mode outside the station. The official tangle procedure includes cleaning the end cap and cavity; contact support if the alert remains after correct refitting and restarting.
For smells, complete the drying process
After cleaning, dry the mop as your model requires, especially before storage or a longer break from use. On stations with drying, check that the cycle actually completes. Let the robot’s normal process wet the mop again for its next task.
eufy’s X10 Pro Omni guidance provides adjustable drying times and notes that temperature, humidity and the mop’s water content affect drying. Check the actual condition as well as the timer.

Recheck the same small area
This is an editorial observation method for home use. Choose an area that permits wet mopping and has no pooled water. Keep the area and route roughly the same. Finish cleaning and refitting first, then change one setting at a time.
| What to record | Before cleaning | After cleaning or adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Mode, water level and rewash setting | Record the current values. | Write down the one setting you changed. |
| Floor immediately after mopping | Note thin wet marks, stripes or pooling. | Check the same spot for improvement. Pause if water pools. |
| Floor once dry | Note gray marks, oily marks or no residue. | Check whether the original marks remain. |
| Mop or roller condition | Note dirt, uneven wetting or damage. | Check that it is clean, securely fitted and evenly wet. |
| Alerts and wash-tray drainage | Record the message and where water collects. | Check whether the alert clears and dirty water drains normally. |
For example, if gray kitchen marks decrease after cleaning the mop and tray while using the same mode, keep the existing consumable for now. If the fabric is torn, move to replacement. For repeated water-system alerts, send your notes and photos to support so they can see what you have already checked.
05 / Make the replacement decision
Keep it, replace it or check a fault?
| What you found | Buying decision | Component to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Clean fabric is intact, fits securely and mops well again | Keep using it and maintain a cleaning routine. | No new part needed now. |
| Holes, substantial thinning or lasting distortion affect contact | Replace the matching consumable. | A removable mop pad or the manufacturer’s roller assembly. |
| Wetting stays uneven after cleaning and restoring water supply, with visible wear | Use your model’s care guidance to choose a replacement. | A mop or roller explicitly listed for that model. |
| The fabric is sound, but a holder, clip, end cap or drive part is damaged | Check the repair part and procedure first. | A holder, end cap or service repair, depending on the fault. |
| Leaking, poor drainage or repeated alerts remain after cleaning and refitting | Complete the fault procedure or contact support first. | Choose parts once the fault location is established. |
Use the manufacturer’s replacement interval and app reminders as inspection points, then consider actual wear. Design, cleaning area and floor conditions affect use; the condition table helps you make the decision.
When buying, identify whether the listing supplies fabric, a holder, an end cap or a complete roller assembly. Check the exact model in its compatibility list and confirm the pack quantity.

Common questions
Before your next run
Should I increase or reduce water when I see streaks?
Separate wet marks from residue that remains after drying. For a dry or unevenly wet mop, check supply and rewashing. For marks from excess water, reduce the setting within the model’s and floor’s permitted range. Clean the mop first so the change is easier to assess.
What needs manual cleaning if the station washes the mop?
Follow the manual’s routine for the dirty-water tank, wash tray and removable filters. Check the mop and roller ends too. These components have their own maintenance steps alongside automatic washing.
Does a smelly mop need replacing?
Clean the mop, tank and tray, complete drying and locate the remaining odor. Use the condition table when fabric is visibly worn, torn or still works poorly after cleaning. Follow the relevant troubleshooting for tank or drainage faults.
Can I buy just the fabric around a roller?
Check the model’s design and official parts list. For example, T80 OMNI support describes an integrated mop-and-roller component, so choose that matching assembly. For designs with detachable fabric, follow their own listings.
